‘Ship’s Garden’ was a deserted park but reborn as a space for local activities. To maximize available space, we minimized the number of explicit lighting fixtures, instead using the stairs and benches as lighting fixtures themselves. Ship’s Garden is built into a sand bank of major rivers and surrounded by skyscrapers. Hence, the building can be seen from all directions, but when you are inside, you have an uninterrupted view. We considered this ‘Seeing’ and ‘Being Seen’ aspect. Finally, we succeed to make an image of a sailing ship departing at night, a new symbol of the city center.
