In Miyazaki Prefecture, the 5th building of the Miyazaki Prefectural Office was restored and relocated next to the Disaster Prevention Office building which was newly built. At the entrance of the Disaster Prevention Office, in order to create a warm impression, wooden louvers made of prefectural timber and walls were illuminated softly by indirect lighting. Movable exhibition panels have important information to protect the citizens of the prefecture, so they were required to be clearly illuminated. We installed small spotlights into the wooden louvers, which aim at the panels. The 5th building of the Miyazaki Prefectural Office is a building designated as an Important Landscape Structure by the Miyazaki Prefectural Office. We executed this lighting design to emphasise the classic elegance of the old building by using contemporary technology. The interior lights of the building inherited the atmosphere of the time of construction. The exterior lights accentuate the architecture designs of the building such as red brick walls, eaves, and elongated windows.
