Heiwa-dori is an important transport node in central Kokura, the heart of Kitakyushu. It intersects with other main roads, thus, lots of people use this road to travel to offices and commercial areas, and public transportation such as buses and monorails are concentrated there. Heiwa-dori Station is shaded even during the day due to the monorail overpass, giving a dark impression. In order to create a harmonious night view, we decided to illuminate the exterior building of Heiwa-dori station, as well as the monorail piers and tracks. We also added a graphic design inspired by the concept of "Junction”, which is the identity of Heiwa-dori. Various coloured strap sheets were attached continuously to the surface of the building and pillars to distinguish each area intuitively, each colour representing; brown = history (Kokura Castle), purple = rest (Katsuyama Park), orange = food (Tanga Market), blue = traffic (Kokura Station), yellow green = sports (Mikuni World Stadium), green = literature (Ogai Street).
